Wine tastings at Põhjala Resort

Discover the world of wine under the guidance of a sommelier in Põhjala Resort’s unique IKIGAI Hall – a standalone building centred around a wine cellar created from a nearly 100-year-old granary. Built around the historic granary, the elegant Japandi-style glass house creates a special and private atmosphere for wine classes, where history, contemporary architecture and the world of wine meet.

The classes last 1.5 hours and are led by a professional sommelier. During the class you will get to know different wines, their origins, production, styles and flavour profiles. And of course, the most important part is the tasting itself.

Class 1 – Wine ABC

A great introduction for those who want to understand the world of wine better and feel more confident in front of a wine list next time.

Guided by a sommelier, we taste 8 different wines and talk about how to taste and evaluate wine, which grape varieties and wine regions matter most, and where the different aromas, flavours and styles of wine come from.

The class suits both beginner wine lovers and those who want to refresh and organise their existing knowledge.

Class 2 – The world of sparkling wines

The bubbles in your glass can be born in very different ways.

In the sparkling wine class, guided by a sommelier, we taste 6 different sparkling wines and discover what sets apart the world’s best-known sparkling wine styles and production methods.

We talk about how sparkling wines are made, different regions and grape varieties, and learn to recognise the styles, flavours and characteristics that make one sparkling wine different from another.
